As to rpms and head gaskets:
I am only using one head gasket, and last outing turning 3600rpm direct drive.
In my tuning process in my planning hull, I got an increase in rpms with headgasket...

Yes they have tried roller cams. But due to the smallness of our set-up they had to actually place the roller on the tip of the cam lobe. So you didn't get the full effect of a "roller" profile cam...

I used to race karts and we used a Briggs & Stratton 5hp flathead
12 Cubic inch the bore and valve sizes are almost exact of a Atomic.
But the Briggs had about 5/8" less stroke.

No signs of restriction.
Many a V8 car came with single 2 inch exhaust in the 60's-70's-80's

Try putting in reverse without the cables hooked up.
