Don't wait until the cable freezes up
How I know that is "not a recommended practice:" A couple of years ago my boat was launched at the yard where I wintered over and I couuldn't shift out of neutral. Fortunately, my home marina was...

From the Chesapeake to Gulf of Maine
First the good news (for this forum--non-news): In June I "sailed " my boat from the Annapolis area to Friendship, Maine. I intended to use the A4 only minimally, but time and the weather...

Winter projects--one problem
There is nothing colder than the interior of a fiberglass boat in mid-January.
I usually end up working on my "winter projects" in April.

I'd rather sail
Just as long as she gets me back to the slip when the wind dies, I'm happy.

95% solution
Enriching the idle solved most of the problem. There is still a slight hesitation as I advance the throttle, but that was always there and the engine runs fine otherwise. Delving into Don's FAQs...

Indigo PCV question
I recently installed an Indigo PCV system on my engine. It eliminated oil smoke in the engine compartment. But I seem to have a problem: I think I have the idle adjusted OK, but I now have a...

From Road & Track
Dick O'Kane, a writer for Road & Track in the 70's, once said that "carburetor is a French word meaning 'leave it alone.'" (Of course, he was referring to the dastardly SU's installed in MG's and...

Problem appears to be solved
I swapped out the new impeller for the old. The new one measured 1/64" undersize. The pump is now pumping like a champ. Of course, now I am worrying about the engine coolant pump, which I also put...

Never made a difference before and (oops)
First, I was referring to the seawater pump on my FWC engine.
Now: I was following the same procedure I follow each spring for starting the engine before the engine is launched. The strainer...

Impeller vanes flipped the wrong way?
I know they are SUPPOSED to filp the right way, but I had the same problem this afternoon. Maybe they don't always flop over. The freshwater system was working fine when I hauled the boat in...

Always listen to Don
Yes, I took Don's sage advice. (Though I still hate draining gas though the main passage plug.)

I replaced the fuel pump. She is running fine now. I even motored around for about 2 hours last weekend (no wind--good time for a test).
The old fuel pump had a small hole in the side...

I just replaced my fuel pump for the 2d time. The pump I replaced lasted 10 years, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. The interesting thing is that it just didn't stop working. It died a...
