I always left the key in the ignition switch....

I always left the key in the ignition switch. When the switch began to be unreliable I installed a toggle for the ignition and a pushbutton for the starter. Very happy with this config.

It'll pulse 13 up to 14ish every hour for weeks then not do it for weeks. Load stays the same.

Thank you. Yep, Neil, that's about what I am thinking. Now we're talking an unplanned dry dock . And the shaft is unbelievably difficult to get to.
I only use the iron sail in and out of the marina....
