Inidgo has an oil filter kit (http://www.atomic4.com/oilfilter.html). It uses some type of rubber lines. I have one on my engine and it seems to work well.

You can check for a cracked block by pressure testing the block. See the 'water in oil' post under troubleshooting. It gives the details on troubleshooting these issues.

I was able to get my A4 running smoothly last night. I am not sure exactly what the problem was but I am suspecting that it was a combination of an overly rich fuel mixture and plugs being fouled....
