Hello,
I have been looking at a boat with a 17hp BMW Diesel Auxiliary that is supposedly "a little tired," although it seems to be running OK.

battery charger lead heating up

Hello,
While putting my 12-volt deep cycle on the charger tonight, I noticed that the negative lead was hot to the touch.
On closer inspection, I noticed that it appeared to be melting the vinyl...

This is why

this forum is so great.

I'll have to check my records on the rebuild, but it wasn't that long ago.
Could it have been some random dirt or gunk?
Either way, I'll take it apart and at the very...

laser tachometer

Hello,
I have seen hand-held, digital readout, laser tachometers for sale at places like Harbor Freight for $25.
Do these work? Would they work on an Atomic Four?
Would it be better to spend...

N Dutton....
Yes, it was something other than the OPSS, although I think that most of those who replied were leaning toward it being something else.

I am suspecting it was a stuck float valve,...

Mo,
Thanks.
That was exactly what I was looking for.
The adjustments went quicker than I thought and were not nearly intimidating as I thought they would be.

I have never used one before, but Hanley's comment about the distributor lobes getting worn down makes a lot of sense.
