From what I read, carbon plug wires are higher resistance, might decease voltage to plugs. Trying to figure out why engine is skipping and not idling well. rebuilding carb didn't help.

Oil does indeed look gray. I drained it and will change it again. Still only have compression on #4, although I can see some valves moving in other cylinders when I crank it.

was slow to start but ran smoothly for 20 minutes while I charged battery. four or five days later, just wouldn't catch at all, with some grey water inside spark arrestor. Will check oil tomorrow.

boat just went in the water. Battery several years old but not sure exactly. Battery voltage across posts dropped from 11.8 to 2.3 after 10 seconds slow reluctant crank. Got to be bad battery.

I recently rebuilt the carburetor, using Moyer Marine rebuild kit. Took maybe 1 1/2 hours. Good diagrams with kit. Only recommendation is to be sure to have some small screwdrivers to get jets out.
