Thank you for your replies...always helps me get into a diagnostic frame of mind rather than "try this", "try that".

Pulled a plug and saw there was a spark when cranking, so assumed a fuel issue....

Not sure about your exact situation, but in general heating the hose before pushing it onto a fitting works wonders. Holding the hose in hot water for a minute or two is best: a heat gun is my second...

You might try removing the starter, and then see if the flywheel turns freely. Its easy to remove.

one greasy plug

I was checking my plugs yesterday and noticed the aft plug had a fair amount of thick greasy deposit on it. The forward three plugs looked clean and dry. wondering what could cause this?

You are correct, it should suck air (usually from the carb side of the engine) out through a vent aft. Some find it useful to sniff the vent with the blower running before starting to ensure there...

If it is anything like the one Indigo sells it is easy to open. I would certainly open it up and have a look.....especially as you don't know its history. Could even be it is not screwing all the way...
