Vintage RDF
Anybody have a legitimate interest in a vintage Davis RDF? We found this when cleaning out my son's closet. I have no idea as to its history.
The item is similar to this, but this is just an image pasted for reference: http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/9bAAAO...U2e/s-l400.jpg I'm not interested in selling it, but would like to give it to someone for whom it has some value. PM me if interested. Bill |
Used a similar RDF unit about 40 years ago. We were doing overnight races in my 24 footer, and the RDF was IT! Take a bearing and lay the line on the 12 chart - two more lines and you had a triangle that my coffee cup would fit inside. Gave us great comfort to know we weren't aground somewhere..
Moved up to our 30' Tartan which came with a Loran! But TDs only, no lat-long. Needed a chart with the TD lines.. The thing was the size of a shoe box! Upgraded to one that gave lat-long, and also had waypoints so you could navigate with it. That was the size of a pack of cigarettes! And then came GPS.. |
