Any idear what this Mich Wheel prop is worth?
 

Let's say a feller managed to acquire himself, for pretty much nuthin', this Michigan Wheel bronze propeller in what appears to be overall excellent condition. Let's also say this feller has no use for it whatsoever, being that it's way too much prop for an Atomic 4 (we're assuming here that's what this mythical feller has) and clearly meant for a larger boat than this feller has himself. Let's also say that this feller, being a feelthy capitalist pig, seeks solely to maximize the potential $$$ profit to be had by selling such item. Any idears what this thing might be worth and where's the best place for this hypothetical feller to offer it up for sale?

Yeah, I did take a look-see at what new ones were going for. This one appears to have been very slightly used. I'm thinking that since it's not brand-spankin' new and certified to be dynamically balanced, yadda yadda, it's going to fetch something less than new retail. Just trying to get a handle on whether it's $200, $400, or something else...

I'm likely going to toss it up on eBay and just see what happens. I don't like eBay too much anymore. Back in the 1990s and early 2000's I sold a whole mess of stuff on eBay. But then they made a whole lot of changes over the past 10 years that make it much less favorable to the seller. And a lot of buyers are just a royal pain to deal with. So I haven't sold anything there in a long time. Mebbe I'll give it a go with this...

I once had a "high end" prop that I didn't need so I placed it on consignment with my local prop shop. He took a small fee but was able to sell it for more than I ever could have, and everybody was happy.

Unfortunately, there are no "local prop shops" that I know of around here. I suppose I could cart it up to Deltaville, 90 miles away and see if I could find a place that would sell it, but that's a bit of a pain.

In any event, I've put it up on eBay just to see what happens.

Oh yeah, I'm extremely familiar with The List of Craig. I just don't think this item will sell too well around here. I've never seen a prop like this on CL. Most people on CL are looking for an absolute, rock-bottom, dirt-cheap bargain.

The primary advantage of eBay is that you're reaching a vastly larger audience, and potentially connecting with someone out there who is looking for exactly this item.

Symtemek....I laughed. I figure it`s worth 3 to 4 hundred dollar range.

Just to give you an idea of my sense of humour. This morning I am at the club and foating in the water is "pot" ....lots of leaves, some entire plants. So the fellas were all speculating where it came from. I said..."downtown...one of those visiting movie stars that own the ocean front condo's was out and didn't come home last night...his current squeeze got p'd off and wanted to hit him where it hurt....hence the pot plants floating out to sea"....was it a full moon last night?????

Before you sell, have you considered a den decorated in a marine motif? This could be a good start. Inside my house I have "my" wall (strictly off limits to the wife) with underwater photography, the cherished picture of my Westsail framed in teak (same as on my signature), a decorative brass sextant and an array of half-hulls of every sailboat I've ever owned. I've been thinking of a nautical garden too. There's enough stuff I'll never use again laying around for a decent start like an anchor, chain and a SCUBA tank that failed hydro. I've been thinking of turning it into a big wind chime (or is it wind gong?).

Our home is by no means well decorated but it's interesting to watch visitors gravitate to the wall. It's mesmerizing.

Back to the prop. It would be cool to make a small glass topped table with the prop underneath mounted on an axle, maybe lit internally and slowly turning with a small gear motor. The reflection of the light on the turning prop could be like a nautical version of a lava lamp.

Geez, can't believe I said 'motif'. Time to turn in my man card??

Nope. But I have considered a wallet decorated in a cash motif.

I really, really, really ... really ... don't need more STUFF. Cash, I can always use a bit more of.
