If you have stuff at the bottom of the threaded holes in the block, I would soak them with PB Blaster (or similar)... and then tapping them with punch and hammer. Be careful of the threads and wrap...

I have always found it easy to turn the engine with a socket wrench on one of the flywheel bolts. With the plugs out it should not be hard at all.

scratchee, if a stuck valve is going to break it will usually happen at start up:eek:. A "running" sticky valve just does not close all the way, no biggie at low RPM's and they'll usually break loose...
