    romi - new member

Hi. my name is Aaron and Romi is my boat's name.
I have the boat for about three years and I use it only in summer time.
The boat is catalina 27 with ATOMIC 4 DIESEL ENGINE. model 5411.
I live in Centerport NY and I keep the boat in Huntington Harbor.
I had hard time starting the engine after the winter for the first time, but once it started, I had no problems for the rest of the season.
Unfortunately, this time the engine did not start and I think that the electric fuel pump is not working.
If somebody familiar with this engines and can help me, or know a mechanic that can help will be greatly appreciate.
    Thanks

It's a universal atomic diesel not a universal atomic four diesel engine. When I looked in Google there was a lot of good information on troubleshooting the engine. I sure there are some Afourians that are familiar diesel engines. Maybe they can help.

Do you have the owner's manual? If not, here's a link:
      http://www.ewmanchester.com/CalDocs/...s%20Manual.pdf
      • Did you activate the glow plugs for 30 - 60 seconds before starting?
      • Did you leave the raw water intake closed during cranking?
      • Is there any solid indication the electric fuel pump is not working or is this the current guess?
      • Has the engine been run out of fuel (requires fuel system bleeding or she'll never start)?
      • Tank valve open?
      • Possible leak in the fuel system between the tank and the fuel pump? As this is a negative pressure area fuel won't drip out but air will be sucked in requiring the bleed exercise - after the leak is found and repaired.
Diesels are pretty simple. Give 'em fuel and they'll run.

I activated the glow for 30-45 seconds.
I cannot hear the "tic tac" sound of the electric pump. this is the reason why I think that the pump is not working.
I never run out of fuel and I do not see leaks, but it is possible that the filters need cleaning.
I will buy new pump and hope that this will solve the problem.
        Thank for the advices.
Will let you know new developments.
        Thanks

Before you buy a new pump check, with a volt meter, to be sure you are getting electricity to the pump.

Following John's check, if no power to the pump look for an inline fuse holder in the circuit.
