Northern 29- Hot Exhaust\Drowned Engine

First of all, a massive thank you to anyone who has posted their worries and successes here over the years. I wouldn't have made it the last few days with out this site/I'd have a big dent in my bank account from calling a mechanic.

Long story short, hot exhaust desintergrated on me, drowning the engine (Carb, cylinders, oil). Yes the engine is running again, thanks to this group. ( Anything I should pay attention to over the next few days/weeks)?

I put in a new hot exhaust, lengthening the run on the hot side by at least 17", from the original 8", but where I need help is on the Northern 29's I only have about 4-5" of lift between the exhaust flange and the muffler.

That doesn't leave a ton of prevention in case of back flow, and I did notice a little drip above the water inlet. I haven't fully tightened the pipes as I'm not sure this set up is best yet, and also waiting for a new gasket from MMI, both of which should add pressure into the system.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Don't Know Anything About A N29 But.......

If you can design the hot section so part of the riser is to or beyond the centerline of the boat the hot section will be equally effective preventing back flow on both tacks.

First off, welcome to crew!

Because of your lack of rise available, you may be a candidate for a check valve and/or an exhaust "flapper"

We also have a Northern 29 with the atomic. I am going to the boat this morning and I can take some pic's if that will help you. We do have a check valve in our system just so you are aware.

Chapter 5, I do have a check valve on the exhaust, and it looks like it’s operating well. Question for you, do you have an Anti Syphon set up, if so where?

The anti-Siphon or an air bleed goes between the exhaust manifold water outlet and the riser water injection inlet.

I am going to say no I do not have the anti siphon.
