I have a early 60's A4, the oil pressure was about 20 and did not change with increased RPM, the compression checked out at around 70 per cylinder. I rebuilt the carburetor and installed an electric fuel pump, it starts easy and sounds good no knocking. I pulled the head off today and holy cow what a mess, as you can see by the pictures. So do I go cheap and just a valve job and some rings or go all out and bore with new pistons, rings and bearings? When I was running it on the bench, I noticed that I had a hard time getting the drive to stop, it was either forward or reverse, is this common? The boat is a 63 columbia 29, so I hate to spend a fortune, but I do like the engine and boat. What would you guys do, and yes I have a budget of about $1500 to 2000.
sorry about the pics, but I can't get the Mac to put them in the message
Thanks Carl
